Working in musiConnects these past five months has been an eye-opening, incredible experience for me. “Eye-opening” because it is the first time I have been exposed to a school and students from socio-economically disadvantaged and culturally diverse neighborhoods. Their genuine love and interest in music has made the experience all the more inspiring and rewarding. Out of all the things I have been a part of with musiConnects, working alongside the kids has been by far my favorite part. I feel that spending time with and teaching these kids has made me a more confident, patient, and understanding person. The project I’m most excited about doing in the fall -pertaining to musiConnects- is taking the students on an outing to the New England Conservatory of Music to observe and listen to the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) rehearse. The students, during the YPO rehearsal, will be engaged in an activity that reflects how the music makes them feel or think.
